Vietnam Presentation

On Monday, one of our OASIS volunteers did a presentation on Vietnam. She had recently visited and one of our very own room 109 students is from Vietnam! She brought pictures and items for us to explore. She is coming back soon to talk to us about Japan.

Field Trips

Room 109 has two field trips coming up. The first is this Wednesday, April 30th. It is a walking field trip to the University City Public Library for the Storytelling Festival. The second field trip is to the St. Louis Zoo on May 30th. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Library

Room 109 visited the school library Friday. The students are excited about being able to check out from the non-fiction section. They have been coming up with topics they want to learn more about and finding the books using the Dewey Decimal System.

In science Friday, we dissected lima beans to examine the parts of a seed.

Reading Response Journals

Room 109 students are reflecting on their reading through the use of reading response journals.

Investigating Motion

Room 109 students did some free investigation time in the science lab. They were looking for ways to put their axels in motion and the direction in which they moved.

Force and Motion

Room 109 learned about how objects can be put in motion by a push or a pull. We also learned that objects in motion move in directions.

Time

Room 109 has been working on telling time to the hour and half-hour on analog clocks. We are also working on writing the digital notation.

Personal Foot and Standard Foot

Today we measured objects with our feet. We compared the measurements of different sizes of feet. Then we compared this with a standard foot.

Investigating Balance

Room 109 learned about balance and counterweights by using various shapes of tagboard and clothespins. 

Nonstandard Linear Measures

Room 109 students learned how to use parts of their bodies to measure the length of objects in the classroom.
