Balance Points
On Friday, we experimented with tagboard and clothespins again. This time, the tagboard was shaped like an arch. The students were given one arch and two clothespins (counterweights). They experimented with various balance points to determine if the position was stable.

Balancing Crawfish
Room 109 has started a unit on balance and motion. Friday we visited the science lab to make discoveries about balance. We found different ways to balance a tagboard crawfish using only clothespins as counterweights. Have your child try to balance objects around the house. See if the object is still stable when the fulcrum is moved.
Bubblegum Connecting Cubes Learner Party
Last Thursday, room 109 had a party for learners. If you were a learner all day you earned a piece of bubblegum and were invited to play with connecting cubes durning indoor recess. We came up with some interesting connecting cube structures!

Note Taking and Non-Fiction
For the next few weeks, room 109 will be taking notes about their learning while reading non-fiction. They are also responding to their reading by talking with their classmates and writing in response journals. At the end of the unit, room 109 students will be publishing their own non-fiction books.
