Peer Editing
Room 109 students have been begging to have their writing displayed on the smartboard by using our new document camera. Lately we have been composing opinion pieces. As a class, we point out a few things the author did well and one suggestion that could make the piece even better. These first graders are analyzing a piece about which pet is the best. They are debating the placement of a period to determine where it makes the most sense.

Absorbing Investigation
On Friday we went to the science lab to continue our investigation of water. We observed as colored water climbed up paper towels and we compared fresh celery to celery that had been in colored water since Monday. We compared this to the school garden. We talked about how we water the garden and how the plants absorb the water.

Strengthening Frienships
Room 109 has been working on getting to know each other more to find what we have in common. We learned that many of us have the same favorite colors. Also, pancakes are a popular breakfast favorite. Finding these similarities will help us build our friendships.
Super Readers
Recently, room 109 read the story Dex: The Heart of a Hero. In this story, Dex the dog wanted to become a superhero. He researched, trained and built his stamina. Room 109 student compared Dex's story to how they are training and building their stamina to become super readers. We know the job will not be easy but we train everyday. :)
