Ready Radishes

Some of the radishes we planted were ready to be picked!

Math Games

Today we played math games to help us visualize our math facts.

Bus Evacuation

Today we had a bus evacuation drill to practice leaving the building.  We also learned about bus safety and emergency exits. We all got to practice leaving the back of the bus. When we got back in the classroom, we talked about what we had learned. One student pointed out that we also have a fire extinguisher in the classroom.

Symphony Trip

Today we went to Powell Hall. We viewed an educational concert put on by a collaboration of the St. LouisSymphony and the St. Louis Zoo. The students had a blast! They recognized some of the musical pieces from music class and of course recognized familiar animals from the zoo.

We were excited to ride the bus together as a class.
We had to wait in line for a while as there was schools from all of the St. Louis area trying to get in.
We got to see a building being torn down as we were waiting.
The inside was very fancy. The railings were even covered with red velvet!
We got to sit in the balcony.
We had a picnic lunch after we got back.

Bubble Gum Testing Party

Room 109 celebrated completing an intense round of reading assessments. The students remained focused and quiet while I administered each test individually. We needed to celebrate their patience and hard work!

Building Our Stamina

After practicing with our reading buddies, room 109 worked on building their stamina by reading their good-fit books. The students enjoy reading in unusual places!

Reading Buddies

Room 109 practiced checking for understanding with their peanut butter and jelly partners (reading buddies). Peanut butter would begin reading and jelly would check for understanding by asking who, what, when, and where. Eventually the strategy will be combined with retelling and literary elements.

Technical Difficulties

I just realized that I am unable to play videos from this blog on my phone. I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I do know you can watch the videos from a regular computer or laptop. The pictures that seem overly grainy are actually videos.

Rainy Day Blues

Room 109 is doing their best to beat the rainy day blues and get some exercise at the same time. Luckily, there are resources such as Go Noodle that provides kid-friendly ways to get the wiggles out.

Eating From the Garden

Room 109 has begun sampling fruits and vegetables from the garden. Last week we had a mashed potato party using the potatoes that a few students had picked. We picked a watermelon and made predictions on what it would look like inside. Turns out it wasn't ripe. This week the students tried cantaloupe. Everyone seemed to love it! Cameron commented that the cantaloupe tasted much better than the kind you can buy at the store.

Room 109 owes a big thank you to James' mom for sharing all of her garden knowledge with us!

Pushing on Air

In science lab, room 109 investigated air compression and air pressure. We learned that air can be trapped and that air trying to escape can move objects.

Read Read Read

Today we had a hearing screening. We tried to make the most of the wait by reading some good books.
